Bardic Explanation
Rokeclif is hosting Bardic Madness for one huge honkin’ reason. Bronislavá thought that Bardic Madness needed more cowbell.
I don’t know if she came up with this notion out of the blue, or if she was engaged in a serious study of period music for her PhD dissertation, or what. She may even have seen the episode of Saturday Night Live in which Christopher Walken insisted on more cowbell, but I doubt that, because Saturday Night Live is rarely used for SCA documentation.
Bardic Madness XXII really isn’t about cows. The theme is really about turns of phrase — all the amazing ways that people have made language sing. “…til the cows come home” is merely one of hundreds of expressions that have become a part of everyday speech.
So you really don’t have to put on your chaps and ride into the sunset for this Bardic Madness, All you have to do is ask the musical question, “What’s a metaphor?”
